Got this from the checking letters and fish and looked up the “French art” later.

French art links two fish — a point used in the main (7-5) = MARLINE SPIKE

fish = MARLIN and PIKE, French art = ES (tu es/thou art)

Favourite clue:

Traditional singer of considerable weight embracing girl briefly (9) = BALLADIST

considerable weight = BALLAST, girl briefly = DI

MARLINE SPIKE = spike for separating strands of rope for splicing
French art = ES (tu es/thou art)
